New York Giants vs. Miami Dolphins

There is a house in Vernon C. T.

They call the house of beer

It’s been ruin of many a chicken wing

And God I know I’m one

Not trying to copy Pauly’s weekly challenge but rather taking a shot at myself. I have always had tremendous pride in my ribs. But this past Sunday when we decided to tailgate in the driveways, I decided to make my own hot-wings. Well I guess I ruined many a chicken wing and will stick to the old Tyson from now on. I think these wings ended up hot enough to sauté Nostra’s mushrooms after he had ingested them. (Maybe I should have had some onions on the side for him as well.)

For two weeks in a row, the Giants took care of business as was expected and predicted. The defense continues to be the source of our victories not only by stopping the opponent but putting most of our points up on the board. The stats do not always reflect that, but let’s face it, when Señor Pierce intercepts a ball and runs it back to the 5 yard line, then my crippled grandmother should be able to punch it in for a touchdown. The defense continues to sack, intercept, recover fumbles, and sometimes even cover a receiver.

The offense has very brief moments of glory. Yes they are getting more consistent, and Eli is given many more chances to throw off the right foot, but why all the interceptions? Mrs. Shockey has had one “Bavaroesque” play in every game so far but not that many. Hell why shouldn’t he be blocking most of the time, he drops more than he catches and gives us his version of T.O. In reality, the offense has benefited more from the rules of the SFL. (We should congratulate Mr. “It’s not a” Toomer for his team record for most touchdown catches breaking the old Kyle Rote record.)

Speaking on the topic of enlightenment, young Nostra sent a copy of an article from Fox Sports News’ web site. Very interesting perspective from a black American writer about some of the black American athletes in the SFL. He mentions primarily T.O. and Chad Johnson, plus a number of others, how they are hurting both the SFL as well as the earned stature of black American athletes in the SFL. He talked about how Jim Brown and others worked through adversity but worked with the team to be winners and champions. Now these new clowns (my word here) are the anti-team and cause distractions, dissention, and ultimately loosing teams. He goes on to say that because of these guys, we should not be surprised that the Patriots and Colts are now more than 50% white American players and do not have the problems that Cowboys and Bengal’s have. My personal view on this is it is not related or confined to any one race or color. Every team sport has to endure some of this. Heck we the Giants have Shockey.

The real point is that the true greats go out give a Hall of Fame performance every time and do it with passion. And as with all of us, do their job and support the rest of the team. Like Pauly points out, how many of us pound our chest and point to the heavens every time we actually do our job correctly?

Recalling a line from the movie “A Knights Tale”, I have been found wanting. That’s right; I finally saw and spoke with Papa Jim for the first time in about 2 weeks. After this brief conversation (he needed to get the lawn mowed) I wanted. Yes, I have always said that I would love to retire as early as possible and early enough to enjoy it. Well let us review. Papa Jim retired from a very successful teaching career in his mid-50’s. Upon retiring he continued his summer job of painting and wallpapering. He now does this at his convenience. Well now you may ask why you would be jealous. Well let us review briefly the conversation. Where have you been Papa? Well we were at the Cape (that’s Cod for our non-New England readers). I have been working on a little job that I need to get done because I am leaving for the Cape again with 7 other guys for a weekend long golf outing. I’m kinda uncomfortable because I usually like to work on Monday’s but instead I’ll be golfing. The pressure will really be on because we are heading down to Florida to visit my young lad and family so I can go Trick-or-Treating with the grandkids. Let me sum this up by quoting the Mamas and Papas, “Go where you wanna go and do what you wanna do”.

I wanted to welcome to new subscribers to our weekly report, Big Red from Brooklyn, a very old friend of mine. In fact we went to both grammar school and high school together and have kept in touch since. Then there is Christian Diana from work. I think she just wants to read this every week to test her skills at rejecting Satan. Good luck Diana.

Another note of mention is the Birthday of Fr. Swiss. Happy birthday. Also in celebration it is rumored that there was a free concert in Fr. Swiss’ honor up on “The Hill”.  Congratulations and we all wish you many many more.

Prediction Time:

New York Giants vs. Miami Dolphins

Across the Pond, over the cliffs and to Wembley stadium we go for the very first regular season SFL game to be played in Europe. Last week the Giants won a game they should have and were expected to. This week it is the same. I expect the Giant blue mammals to crush the aqueous mammals in the most famous of soccer stadiums. I can only hope that the real British soccer fans show up after a few (okay many) pints and they get as excited as they do during a real international soccer match. Just maybe they will have to fill those moats with water and get the oil heated up ready to be dumped if needed. Giants win.

This Weeks Beer Selection:  Sheriff’s I.P.A.  (from: Sherwood Forest Brewers

In keeping with the English theme this week, I couldn’t help but pick this brew from the Merry Old New England area of Marlborough MA. The name just screams the most classic of all British tales, Robin Hood Men in Tights. (Also remember that the Brits created the IPA style of brew during the days when India was a colony.)

Anyway, when you first pour this brew into your favorite chilled pint glass and take those first couple of whiffs, the citrus and floral aromas immediately get the senses activated. As you begin to sip you immediately get the very nice bitter hoppy up front taste which leads to the much smoother citrus and floral finish. The beer is very consistent and not watery at all.

I recommend pouring this into a nicely chilled pint glass for maximum enjoyment. I think it would be a good combo with either some spicy food or a stronger type cheese.

This fine craft brew gets a 4.0 mug rating and believe that all of the merry men of the forest will enjoy this one.
